ATTENTION: ALL VETERAN FANS! The Aging Otaku Lounge is NOW OPEN for new member registrations!
Welcome to the Past
Allow me to start by asking you a question: What do you think anime and manga fandom is?
I've witnessed firsthand the change of times and the succession of eras in fandom. When I think of my era, things like the old conventions and get-togethers, online discussions on rec.arts.anime, magazines such as Animag and Animerica, and Nth-generation fansub tapes come to mind, as well as something of a special kind of spirit that went along with those days that is difficult to put into words, only fully understandable by those who experienced it.
This site has two major goals:
1: To preserve the memory and history of anime and manga fandom of the mid-90's and prior. Whatever fandom is today, it has definitely moved on from what it was before, and this site is my attempt to preserve the roots of fandom before the memory of those days vanishes forever.
and
2: To act as a central hub for people who were fans during the old era. To be sure, we old era fans are still around, but we're scattered to the four winds, with no central gathering place and no voice amid the tremendous wave of new fans who have taken the reigns of today's fandom. This site, and the forum that goes along with it, aims to be that very central gathering place and that very voice of the old generation.
If you are a newer fan, then I welcome you to browse through this site and see what fandom of the old era was all about. For the older fans out there, I welcome you to relive the heritage of your past, and more than that, I call out to you in request to take an active part in the preserving of our history, as well as to join us at
The Aging Otaku Lounge, the message board specifically for us old generation fans to once again gather together as one.
